Domain Age Factor Up Close

Domain Age Factor is one of the important factors in ranking in SERP. Especially in Google Algorithm. That’s why in buying and selling domains they are one of the factors of the price of the domain. The older the domain the better in SERP. This is the real scenario in ranking websites.

How do you check the age of the domain?
You can use simple Whois tool. Here’s a helpful whois tool that let you bypass Visual confirmation. If you type http://domaintools.com/seopinoy.com you will see at the bottom of the page

Creation date: 02 Nov 2006 12:06:49
Expiration date: 02 Nov 2007 12:06:49

How do you check if the domain is dropped or not?

Use the same whois tool and Waybackmachine tool to check on how a website looks like before. This will give you an idea how do you appraise a website for sale. Also if the website contains any illegal websites before.
So if you see that the domain’s Creation date is new it means that the domain is dropped.

Does Google consider 10yr old parked domain same as 10yr old domain running websites?

Nope, but if you will compare 10yr old parked domain over 10yr old domain with
just coming soon on their page, there is no difference really.
Domain Age factor is only consider with the time Google index it and how many indexed pages and the quality of the content it has during the 10 year period. So if you’re buying a website that says 10 year old website better check its history using waybackmachine. But one thing for sure 10yr old domain parked then turned into website is much better than new domains.

Domain age, as the name states, is determined by the age of your domain, being an Australian blogger with an Australian domain, this usually works to my advantage. I say this because Austrailan domains, unlike other TLDs, have a minimum registration time of two years hence locking in my minimum domain age at two years instead of one. Australian domain names also have a barrier for entry as there are restrictions on who can own one and for what reason it can be owned for, this gives Australian domain slightly more trusts than cheaper generic TLDs.
