How to gain traffic from Search Engines
The main purpose of SEO is to gain traffic from any sources( Search Engine, and referring websites). The three major search engines that drives traffic to a website are Google, Yahoo, and MSN.
Majority of the traffic of a website came from Search Engine traffic. As an SEO for many years now, I have discover different techniques in driving traffic from a website. And one thing that I noticed that is common to them is they don’t research well about the right keywords they should put up on their website. This is one thing that an SEO should do. To guide the website owner to insert popular keywords according to their niche.
How will you know what keywords you will add to your website?
I will share to you one of my technique in order to exploit the beauty of Search Engine Traffic.
1. Know your niche
You must be able to determine what is the right category of the website. You must first know this before moving to the next step of SEO. I have seen lot of SEO still confused what is the right category of their niche.
2. Know your keywords
This is the common mistake that a website owner are doing. As an SEO you must know what is the right keyword for the website. I usually using this Keyword Suggestion Tool over and over again because it provides me the details I really need.
Aside from a tool, this is one of the secret to know the right keywords for your website. Try to make a query on Google search for your niche. I.e. your website is about rafting. List the keywords use by your competitors on their website. Check their Meta-Tags they usually store it there.
I have seen lot of websites using keywords that don’t drive traffic. So if you want to know what keywords that drive traffic, just use the tool I’ve provided above and you’re on the right path.
3. Be specific
Now you’ve already know what keywords you should use. Try to apply it to your website. As much as possible create a specific page for that keywords. I.e. your optimizing a garden decor website try to create a specific page for a specific garden decor because it’s much easier to rank an inner page rather combining all you’re keywords on your homepage. The only problem you will be facing here is building links for your inner pages. Because only few sites accepts inner pages.(if you’re submitting to directories or exchanging links)
4. Start from Smaller to Higher competition
Try to focus on keywords that is less competitive. Example you have a Web Hosting website. I know all of us want to rank on keywords “Web Hosting” but this is next to impossible if your website is new. Try to focus on less competitive keywords like “Cheap Web Hosting“. Also if you’re website is about Web Hosting. I suggest you focus first on your local keywords like “Europe Web Hosting” and “Europe Hosting”. (note I came up with these keywords using the tool I’ve provided above), Always use it as your reference in considering a keyword you want to optimize.
5. Don’t expect too much
Basically, if you have new sites don’t expect your website will rank according to what you’re targeting. Ranking a website takes time. You just need to be patient and keep on working on your site. Usually a website ranks on Google after 3 months or so. But it depends on your niche. the higher the competition, the harder to rank.
These are the basic knowledge I would like to share to individual who want to start gaining traffic from Search Engines. This also serve as a guide for SEO beginners. Be Proactive always.
