Pubcon Report Part 1

Here’s the Part 1 of my Pubcon report. But hopefully I can add at least 5 Pubcon reports.
I’ve learned lots from the people who went there(though I’m not there) but I still
manage to know what happen there by reading lots of blogs of people who went there.
Here’s one of the blogs that caught my eye. It’s Matt Cutt’s blog ( Google Engineer)

He mentioned on his blog that he met Marc Hill Macalua and talked about our 2nd Philippines
SEO contest. It feels great if someone from the other side of the world recognized
our SEO contest. Ok, here’s a quick discussion
what happen there. I have to focus on reciprocal links, on how they will affect your
sites rankings.

If you are currently on your campaign of link exchange here are some tips
that Matt Cutts mentioned on pubcon.

1. Google algorithm are now designed to know if you’re doing reciprocal linking to
increase the link popularity. So having lots of links in your links page will surely hurt your
site’s rankings.

2. Stop doing reciprocal linking but focus on your content and make your site more appealing
to your readers so that your site will become popular and more people will link to your site.

Is link exchange still applicable in SEO or link building?

Yes, but make sure you don’t do it obviously by adding lots of reciprocal links to your site.
Look for quality sites instead of quantity reciprocal links. In other words limit your reciprocal linking
and add lots of contents to make a compelling site that attract viral buzz or word of mouth.
